Automation has become one of the most important tools for anyone working in IT, operations or technology management. It’s no longer only about “saving time”: it’s about reducing human error, standardizing processes and letting systems and teams scale without everything depending on constant manual work.

In a landscape where we keep adding platforms, services and connected flows, automating repetitive tasks is a direct way to improve operational efficiency.

Activepieces: a powerful approach (but with infrastructure requirements)

In an earlier post I wrote about Activepieces, an open source tool that I think is excellent for building complex automations in a self-hosted way.

Activepieces is a very solid option, especially because it’s open source and can be deployed with Docker. In practice, though, this kind of solution usually needs a VPS or a server of your own, plus basic infrastructure maintenance (components such as databases or queues in production scenarios).

That approach is ideal if you want full control, but it isn’t always the most accessible path for every environment.

WordPress is still at the center of many projects

And here is the practical reality: WordPress is still one of the most widely used platforms for websites, internal projects, portals and small to mid-sized systems.

So an automation tool that lives directly inside WordPress opens up a different scenario.

What is Bit Flows?

Bit Flows is an automation plugin for WordPress that lets you build workflows on a visual drag & drop canvas, with integrations, webhooks and advanced tooling for multi-step flows.

The pitch is to work as a Zapier- or n8n-style alternative, but installed directly in your WordPress, so you don’t necessarily depend on external SaaS platforms.

The key difference: accessibility and operating costs

One of the most important advantages of Bit Flows over tools like Activepieces isn’t only technical, it’s operational:

That widens the possibilities enormously: you could even install it on a WordPress site running on cheap shared hosting, depending on your automation volume and the resources available.

Bit Flows also describes asynchronous background execution through a queue system, designed to keep site performance intact even with complex workflows.

AI automation: useful, and now inside WordPress

Bit Flows is also pushing integrations aimed at AI workflows and an “agentic” approach.

One thing is worth clarifying, though: AI agents and AI-driven automation are not exclusive to Bit Flows. They exist on plenty of platforms.

The value here is that Bit Flows is trying to bring those capabilities into the WordPress ecosystem, wiring them into the site’s own workflow.

Real use cases for IT and operations

Plenty of automation tools are marketed at sales teams, but in IT environments the real value is in automating internal processes and cutting repetitive work. Bit Flows can be useful for common tasks in technical setups:

In other words: it’s an accessible tool for operational automation, not just for campaigns.

Downsides: it isn’t open source

Here is the main drawback compared with Activepieces:

That said, they offer lifetime deal / one-time payment plans, which can be worth a look depending on the scenario, especially compared against recurring SaaS costs.

One point that often gets overlooked: if you run several WordPress sites or separate projects, you can install Bit Flows on multiple instances and segment your automations.

That reduces the risk of a single point of failure (SPOF), a fundamental concept in resilience: one component that, if it fails, takes down the whole system.

A practical example:

That way, a failure on one site doesn’t bring down your entire automated operation.

Bit Flows is part of a bigger ecosystem: Bit Apps

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that Bit Flows isn’t a standalone product. It’s part of the Bit Apps ecosystem, whose creators also build other interesting plugins (forms, integrations, support, social automation and so on).

Conclusion

Automation in 2026 is part of the essential IT toolkit: less manual work, fewer errors, more scalability.

If your environment revolves around WordPress, Bit Flows can be an especially practical alternative, because it lowers the barrier to entry: you don’t need to stand up dedicated infrastructure, you can deploy it on any WordPress install and segment automations by project.

Activepieces is still excellent for anyone who wants open source and full control. Bit Flows stands out when WordPress is the center of things and you want automation that is accessible, integrated and operationally simple.
